Vertebrates in Fall

First, we sorted some animal flashcards into invertebrate and vertebrate stacks.

Next, using this book for inspiration, we made our own leaf animals – vertebrates specifically.

I gotta say, one of my sons was totally into this, the other two more or less helped me make their animals.

They all liked drawing faces on their animals though.  After this, they all drew their own animals based on pictures from the flashcards with the intention of completing this activity.  However, they weren’t really interested in gluing the q-tips to their artwork, so we bypassed that part. The part that was kind of the point, but oh well!

Speaking of animals, we visited the Philadelphia Zoo with friends yesterday.  So fun! The lions, hippos, and snakes were the most enjoyed by my crew of littles.

Fun post I have three boys too and this is our first year homeschooling – and we are doing CC too. We’ll be studying vertebrates this week so thanks for the help. The boys also brought me an old backbone from a dead animal that they found on our property so i cleaned it up and told them we’d bring it out when we study our vertebrates. Learning with boys… ewww.
