This was our (Creation, Christmas – twice, Noah, Jonah, Moses, and Samson) eighth visit to Sight and Sound Theatres with our family over the years. We have not once been disappointed! Our children are now ages 5, 8, 10, 12, and 13, but we have been taking them since they were babies on our laps.
For this trip, Sight and Sound Theatres graciously hosted our family. We arrived a little before show time, bought some glazed almonds whose delicious scent fills your nostrils as soon as you walk in, and took one last bathroom trip before taking our seats. For my youngest two, we made sure to get booster seats to raise them up a little. I brought along a bag with some snacks & waters to help keep them still for moments they grow restless. When our children were babies and toddlers, I always expected to take them out for at least a portion of the show. The nearby family room equipped with a large comfy couch, slide, and nursing moms room makes that very easy to do. A tv playing the live show in the family room ensures I didn’t miss much. But on days when the show is not sold out, ushers have also kindly allowed me to walk a quiet, snuggled, and sleepy baby back and forth in the balcony.
Having said all of that, it has always been easy to attend these shows with our children because they are captivated! We are all totally engaged in the dramatic sights, the powerful music, and entertaining acting. I love seeing my children’s faces light up with appreciation for the Bible stories come to life. We know the Bible is true and the people in its stories were alive, but seeing them told in this way is just especially moving. My children still talk about each of the shows we’ve seen, and this Jesus show will be the same way.
My husband ranked it as his favorite. My 5 year old asked at the end if it was the real Jesus – lots of conversation followed that question. 🙂 There are so many ways you could approach the Jesus story, and we loved the perspective they chose, and each character they included. For the sake of not giving too much away, we won’t share much by way of details. But, go check it out! It’s in Lancaster until October 5, 2019, and then the show heads to Branson, Missouri. We are all, my daughter and I especially, really excited for the upcoming show, Esther.
