So, this guy was getting very frustrated during math. He fussed a bit. He wanted to quit. True story – sometimes I want to fuss about and quit too. Sometimes I do fuss about and quit. In this moment, I encouraged him to pause, reevaluate the situation, and keep trying – to give his best. I told him even if it’s hard, he could do it. I told him he’s smart and he could learn. That’s what school is about.
Barely a minute passed when he figured it out and accomplished the goal. See the joy right there? Yeah, me too. Love it. : ) Now he knows he is smart, he can learn, and he can do it – even if it seems hard at first. It’s important to keep going.
That first moment above is hard. Sometimes I do an unbelievably terrible job at the hard moments, especially when those moments last longer than a minute. Especially when the day is full of hard moments with each child. But, man, those moments of joy, they sure are amazing. Experiencing that together is such pleasure for me. It reminds me of one of the many good reasons we homeschool. Because although teaching my littles can be hard, watching my littles learn is a joy!
God’s plan is greater than my own and I’m grateful He called us to homeschool.
