Math – Associative Law
Using food coloring and a primary & secondary color wheel, we played around with the associative law for addition. I assigned a letter to each color & first we just followed the pattern of the color wheel for mixing. Next, we placed all three colors together in the center of the color wheel. We repeated this three times, for each child to have a turn, and they were able to see that combining a+b+c in any order would always equal a+b+c. I thought this was a good simplified way of communicating this law to my younger ones. Are you doing anything fun with associative law for addition at home? How about multiplication? Please share!
