CC Cycle Two App Review & Giveaway

UPDATE: Congrats to Michele Smith and family, who won the Cycle 2 App! I’m so excited for it to simplify review for you and your family, Michele!

Guys, I’m excited to review for you today the Classical Conversations Cycle 2 App.  Based on the chatter surrounding the lead up and release of the app, I know many of you are excited about it, too.  This was my first experience with the app and naturally, the first thing I did was hand it to my littles.  So, really, this could be more or less considered their review.

Each of my oldest littles took a turn playing with the app for about ten minutes each.  They really loved it! And I loved that this bit of screen time was another way to help them review their memory work.

My favorite parts about the app:

1. It’s simple.  The visuals are well-done with no complicated images to distract from the memory work.  The images match the materials we’ve already seen from CC.

2. It is visual and auditory.  Not all of my littles are reading yet, so it’s great to have the memory work displayed on the screen and spoken at the same time.  Not to mention that at least one of my littles is more of an auditory learner.

3. It is easy to use.  From the moment you open the app, the interface is understandable.  With just a minute of explaining how it worked to my boys, they were navigating it on their own.  Since it is so easy to use, it’s a great tool for independent review.

4. It is available.  Because I have the app on my phone, which is nearly always with me, I don’t need to remember to pack review cards or anything else to review our memory work on the go.  This is going to come in super handy as we prepare to embark on a long-ish trip, as part of our 50 States Before They Graduate plan.

I understand the cost of $14.99 can be prohibitive for some.  To be honest, I think the sticker shock of seeing an app cost more than $2.99 held me back before.  Here’s where I’m at with it now…When it comes to things like this, I think it’s best to calculate cost per use.  How often will be use the app? How valuable is the service it provides for me and my family? Because we have our account on multiple devices, a few of my children can be reviewing at once.  Even if we only use it once weekly, the cost quickly becomes minimal.  Once a week for 24 weeks for only one child, the cost per use is $0.62.  Once a week for 24 weeks for three children (like me!), the cost per use is a mere $0.20.  That makes it worth it for me, but I certainly understand that won’t work for every family.

But, guess what? You don’t need to worry about the cost today, because today you can enter to win a copy of the Cycle 2 App for your family.  Please enter below for your chance to win. Make sure you check on Facebook to ensure that you’ve “liked” my page. If entry requirements are not met, the entry will be disregarded. One winner will be randomly selected on Monday, October 14, 2013.

Thanks to Classical Conversations for the app to review & giveaway!

{Also, please note, that the app will be compatible with the generation one iPad soon.  I’ll keep you posted!}

I would definitely use this app for home review and all the place we go! 🙂 I am very excited (but hesitant due to price – although you make a good point with price per use) as it will make our review much easier (which I am horrible about doing).

I had this app last year and I loved the portability of it. We are always in the car and we can use it over our speaker system or just on the ipad with headphones, if one child is using it to review.

I would love to win this! I have sticker shock as well, so it would be great to win a free copy. My girls constantly ask to play on my phone, so this would be very beneficial!

I really want the app, but our budget is really tight! Maybe I’ll be the winner 😉 thanks for the review and opportunity to win it!

LOVE the new app but due to budget have not purchased it. We would use it at home and in our “mobile classroom” aka our car and on the go! Thanks for the chance to win and your WONDERFUL and LIFE saving blog! It is a blessing to our family!

I would love to have this! Thanks for the review. We use mostly android products. So I hope they will create android apps soon! Misty

I would LOVE this app….and as much as I could get over the cost mentally, I just can’t fit it into our already tight budget. Such a bummer, right?! So, fingers crossed to winning!! Thanks so much for the opportunity.

I totally would use this!!! We live rurally and so we spend quite a bit of time in the car – while we get a TON of literature listened to, this would be a great addition to our “car school”!!

I am very excited about the app. We had the Cycle 1 app on our iPad last year and it was a great help! We have 5 in CC and it’s nice to have different avenues for review. This year I have an iPhone so I’m anxious to try the app on that.

I used the Cycle 1 app last year too. I’m very frugal but bought it in a moment of weakness and never looked back 🙂 The kids LOVED feeling like they were using the iPhone for a game, and I liked that I could use it anywhere!

Like others mentioned, I was hesitant about the price, but you make a valid point regarding overall cost. We do the listening constantly in the car, but I think adding the visual component would be fantastic. Last year we used the tutorials from CC Connected, but that only works when you’re online. Definitely something to think about. Thanks for the review!

I’m still undecided if we should buy it. We use the CCconnected tutorials and listen to CDs in the car. Unsure if another app is worth it but we would love it if we won it!,

My kids would love this app. They would use it a lot because we are a very busy family and they go with us every where.

We purchased the Cycle 1 app last year, and I have been waiting anxiously for this one to come out. If I win, I will be able to put it on my children’s iPods so that they will have it at their fingertips!!

This is our first year in CC and although it was a financial constraint to get started, it has been a blessing to our family. I am also a little “sticker shocked” by the cost of the app but know it would be worth it for our children to have as a review, especially on trips. It would be nice to tell my DH who works hard so that we can stay home and continue to home school that we won this valuable tool for our continuing CC work with the children. Thank you for your blog posts and encouragement.

With 5 girls this would be quite handy. I like that they don’t have to be on the internet in order to use it! Thanks so much for this opportunity.

I have been saving up for an iPad this year and will finally have it by Christmas. This is the number one app that I am looking to purchase (or hopefully, win!). Thanks for the review and giveaway.

I have heard great things about this app from others and think it would be a great help in CC review. Thanks for your perspective and the chance to “win” the app!
