What We're Doing – Week 15 Links & Ideas

History –   Watch this video about Prince Henry the Navigator.
  
Print a Google map of our neighborhood and hand write numbers (1,2,3,4) on the map.  The numbers will signify locations I want my littles to walk (or bike ride) to for a clue.  At the final destination, there will be some kind of reward.  Probably some candy and a library book (or this book) about navigation.  Because, my littles are well, so little, we will primarily be focusing on navigation for this history sentence this time around.  

If time allows, we will make a compass and learn how to use a real compass.

Latin – Copy memory flashcard and place in notebook.

English – Continue story from the previous week.

Science –  Melody at And Here We Go shared the link to these photographs of views from the seven highest peaks on her week 15 plans.  We are definitely checking them out!

Together we’ll create this cool mountain model of the 7 highest peaks as a family.

My oldest little will also complete this mountain mini-book for his notebook.

Math – Complete this metric estimation activity after reviewing our ruler knowledge and practicing memory work.

Geography  – Do more blobs. Read this fun book about Israel.

Fine Arts – Check out Brandy’s Great Artist’s Study post, which is full of great links! Fra Giovanni Angelico is, perhaps, best known for painting scenes from the Bible expressing humility and humanity.  He added gold halos around the characters in these paintings using actual gold leaf.  Using this link from Brandy’s post as inspiration, we’ll be adding aluminum foil to our art while discussing Angelico.

I’m excited for these projects, because I think my littles will find all this adventure (navigation, exploring, mountains) fun! I hope your little scholars do too!
